As a church committed to worshiping fully, learning humbly, and loving extravagantly, we believe community is a critical ingredient to following Jesus. Community encourages worship (Hebrews 10:23-25), community facilitates learning (Colossians 3:16), and community inspires love (Colossians 3:12-15). That is why community is an essential element of how we understand learning about Jesus and what it means to follow Jesus; we do not merely learn for the sake of learning, but so that we can be transformed as we set our hearts and minds on things above (Colossians 3:1-4).
Park Road has two main formats for discipleship:
Every Sunday from September - June, Sunday school immediately follows the worship service. Sunday school allows us to study God's Word in depth, asking what God's Word says and what it means for my life. This winter and spring we'll have two different adult Sunday school classes:
- One class will use the book The Whole Story of the Bible in 16 Verses to give you a fantastic general overview of the story of Scripture. You can read more here, or purchase copies here, here, or here. If you are interested in learning more about the Bible and think you'd like a general overview, this is the right class for you!
- Our other Sunday school will take a 12-week journey through the book of Philippians, taking time to unpack the most important themes of Paul's great letter. You can read more here, or purchase copies here, here, or here. If you are interested in digging deeper into one book of the Bible and learning how it applies to you, this class is perfect!
Also running from September - June, our small groups in the evening in homes. Our small groups are based around our sermons and intended to help us apply the Word of God to our own hearts and our own lives. Small groups are not necessarily Bible study - although we certainly do open the Scriptures together! Instead, small groups help us respond to God's Word, discussing how it is affecting our own lives and the opportunities for growth we see within ourselves.
